Teenage Engineering strikes again with their latest installment of the EP-133, updating the device to 128MB.

Questions I answer in this video:
Is double the sample storage enough to get me to upgrade my 64MB device?
What feature(s) would make me upgrade?

SPOILER ALERT:

I love my EP-133 the way it is. I don’t really see a need to upgrade simply for double the memory. I just recently got my hands on a Roland SP404sx so if I’m concerned about storage space on the go I can just upgrade accordingly using different 32MB memory. Now—if Teenage Engineering were to add a stem export option exclusive to the 128 MB KO-ii I would maybe consider—but I’d be kinda pissed if they couldn’t just update my 64Mb device for that feature.

Update: Since creating the video attached for this article, my viewpoint on the stem splitting option being cause for upgrade has changed largely due to the way I would consider advancing my setup around sound design now.

I’m not interested in splitting stems on my EP-133 no matter how much memory is on it because I’ve become obsessed with the coloration that my SP-404SX adds to my sounds. I would much prefer running my SX into an SP-404 MKii (or even an SP-303) with the intent to add more character to the sound and maybe even sample back and forth between the two devices. Time will tell if this is the direction I’ll eventually take as I have an entirely different take on my resistance to pulling the trigger on the SP-404 MKII.
